2nd Date....What should a guy wear?

A couple of nights ago I was enjoying the company of a guy friend. I remarked at how clean his pad was and that something in the kitchen smelled amazing. He confessed that a lady friend was coming over for dinner. A 2nd date. My friend had it all down; he looked great, place was rad, but it made us wonder if guys couldn't use some help in the fashion arena?

Here goes...

Don't assume what you wore out on the 1st date must've worked and to just wear the same thing. Girls give you a very broad right-of-way on the 1st date. Some girls are thinking - it's just the 1st date and they can "fix" you later. Some are thinking that you'll put more thought into the 2nd date. Guys are thinking...neither of these thoughts.

A decision tree of basic fashion guidelines to help you out...

What time of year is it? If you ask a girl she will say Autumn or Holiday season. If you ask a guy he will say Football season, duh!

Here is the 2nd disconnect on what you should wear on a 2nd date.  Sports jerseys!
What does this say about you?

"Hi. Now that we got through our first date, I just want you to know that I'm a meathead that will spend every Sunday and several nights in between at the local sportsbar giving wedgies to my friends and downing shots and draft beer".

I like a fun sports bar and wedgie as much as the next girl but it's not the message you want to get across on the 2nd date. Let the woman fill up her fantasy cup with all the cool things you will do together on date 3-4-5. Wearing your Sunday gear only limits her imagination and your potential.

So what works?

A good fitting pair of denim. If the pockets are too low, you're booty will look non existent; if they are too wide well guess what? You look like you need a treadmill. They should be place mid-booty,  pockets should have the label & subtle to zero design; 1 thread color max (gold sequin pocket designs are for girls!).

A Be Bold! shirt I mention it in the "decision tree" above. Find a button down with some detail; floral pattern, bold stripes. Those are both very hip right now. Just stay away from the dragons, sculls and anything that could look like Ed Hardy made a dress shirt.

Quirky tees! But not childish - ex: your "Grad Night '89 shirt when Tool played at Disney" don't wear it, no matter how cool it was then! I like it when I see a guy wearing a tee that has a great design but no words. Tees can be a great conversation piece.

Try these simple 1-2-3 tips to get past the 2nd date look and move into what you really want to happen on the next date...getting your clothes off.
